SOKOTO State Sickle Cell Disorder Campaign

THEME: Shine The Light On Sickle Cell

This awareness campaign went on from 8th to 11th November, 2021.

Kicked off with a radio broadcast to raise awareness on Sickle Cell Disorder on Monday the 8th.

Then there was an awareness walk on Tuesday the 9th on the streets of Sokoto to create more awareness and to invite the locals for the seminar and free genotype tests.

On Wednesday the 10th and Thursday the 11th, there was a seminar session and free genotype tests for the locals. There was also provision of free routine drugs for families with children living with Sickle Cell Disorder.

A total of 141 locals were given free genotype tests and a good number of them are carriers of the Sickle cell trait which necessitated further counselling sessions to better educate them on the implications of their genotype in marriage and childbearing.
